My start-up decision: It’s casual games

Since I left Jamba/Jamster/Fox Mobile I spent a couple of weeks looking at various start-up ideas and made my call: I am currently founding a start-up in Berlin in the casual games sector. In the first place it will be web flash games, not mobile as many of you supposed.

The market for web-based casual games (i.e. games with low entry barriers that appeal to a broad target group and can be played in instances of 5-10 minutes) is extremely crowded, but I think I found an interesting niche to start in.

I will self-finance the first couple of months, go live and get some traction. Depending on traction, I will then look for business angel/ VC funding. Until then I will likely not make permanent hires, but instead work with freelancers and interns.

I am currently looking for:

  • Interns working on research, game concepts, further competitive analysis and doing beta testing: They get the unique opportunity to experience the very early stage of a web start-up.
  • Freelancers for Flash game-development and PHP site development
  • A great, extremely creative game designer that is interested to join my start-up (on a permanent basis, not as a freelancer)

    Juchuu die Kommentarfunktion ist freigeschaltet. Hast Du Dich damals von den Ergebnissen von Roberts Wühlerei in der Casual Games Welt beeinflussen lassen? Oder war das weise Voraussicht? Ich Drück Dir die Daumen für Dein Startup, aber das Du Dich nur mit dem schnöden Web beschäftigst und Du der mobilen Welt erstmal die kalte Schulter zeigst….das hätte ich nicht gedacht – nicht von Dir *schnief* :-)

    Mobiles Web & PC-Web, das wächst alles zusammen, genauso wie die Mobilfunk-Netzbetreiber zu reinen Bitpipes werden – beide Meinungen vertrete ich ja seit langem. Insofern ist das momentan eine Web-Gründung, aber mobil kommt bald…

    Ich hoffe ich bin in ein paar Monaten live und somit im nächsten Jahr bei der TechCrunch50 nicht mehr Präsentations-berechtigt…
    Freue mich auf das Casual Meeting – in Berlin oder Hamburg.

    Wie gesagt. wünsche ich dir viel Erfolg mit dem Blog und mit den webbasiertn casual games.

    Zum Nofollow attribut: Ich bin für ein prinzipielles Entfernen, Eventuell kan man es bei Bedarf (auf eigene Seiten) explizit setzten. Ich denke man sollte ohnehin immer alle Kommentare lesen und freischalten, womit sich das Thema Spam quasi erübrigt. Askimet unterstützt mich dabei aber schon.

    @Seodeluxe;
    Ich habe viele Bekante in den USA, insbesondere im Silicon Valley, die das Blog ebenfalls gelegentlich lesen. Deshalb habe ich mich für Englisch entschieden. – Hoffe das ist OK. Ist halt immer ein Kompromiss.
